The 7 Budget Countries I've Visited and I'm Sharing Them With You

Swiss Alps

As a blogger and experienced traveler, I've had the privilege of visiting some of the most accessible and culturally enriching destinations in the world, especially on a tight budget. Traveling on a budget is not only possible, but it also opens the door to more authentic experiences and more direct contact with the local culture.

Here I tell you about some of the cheapest and safest countries that I recommend visiting in 2024, where I've been able to enjoy the culture and food without spending too much.

1.Vietnam

is one of the most affordable destinations in Asia, offering a wide variety of cultural and culinary experiences. In cities like Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, you can enjoy street food for just a few dollars, such as the famous pho (noodle soup) or bánh mì (Vietnamese baguette). Plus, getting around the country is inexpensive thanks to its affordable transportation system, which includes trains and buses. In the north, the Sapa region and Ha Long Bay offer unique landscapes at an affordable cost.

2. Thailand

Another backpacker favorite, Thailand is not only known for its beaches and temples, but also for its vibrant street food scene. From Bangkok's famous night markets to the islands of Krabi, eating pad thai, tom yum, and other local delicacies costs very little. Plus, the traveler community in Thailand is very large, making it easy to find accommodation and transportation options at discounted prices.

3. Romania

In Europe, Romania stands out for its beauty and for being much more accessible than other countries on the continent. In Transylvania, you can explore medieval castles like Bran Castle (famous for the Dracula legend) and enjoy mountains and charming villages. In cities like Bucharest, the cost of living is low, and eating at local restaurants is very cheap. Plus, public transportation and the train system are very affordable.

4. Colombia

Colombia is another must-see destination in Latin America, not only for its hospitality, but also for how affordable it is. Medellín and Bogotá offer unique cultural options, such as museums and parks, and the typical food, such as bandeja paisa and arepas, is accessible and delicious. Coastal cities like Cartagena are a bit more touristy, but if you get away from the central areas, you can enjoy the beaches and local life at a reasonable price.

5. Mexico

Mexico is one of my favorite destinations for its incredible cultural and gastronomic variety. Colonial cities like Guanajuato and San Miguel de Allende are beautiful and offer an authentic experience without the big price tag. Street food is varied and inexpensive; tacos, quesadillas, and tamales are just a few of the options. Yucatan and the Riviera Maya also offer low-cost options for those looking for a bit of beach and archaeology, such as Tulum and Chichén Itzá.

6. Georgia

This country between Europe and Asia is ideal for lovers of history and nature. Its capital, Tbilisi, is a charming and inexpensive city, with affordable accommodations and delicious food like khachapuri (cheesy bread) and khinkali (Georgian dumplings). In addition, Georgia offers adventure activities in the Caucasus Mountains, ideal for those looking for ecotourism and adventure at a low cost.

7. Portugal

Portugal is one of the most affordable destinations in Western Europe. In Lisbon and Porto, food and accommodation prices are relatively low compared to other countries in Europe. You can enjoy fado (traditional Portuguese music), stroll cobblestone streets, and sample pastel de nata without breaking the bank. Plus, the Algarve region, with its beaches and cliffs, is perfect for a budget-friendly getaway.
Final Tips for Budget Travel:

Research Local Markets: Eating at local markets or street food stalls allows you to sample authentic cuisine at low prices.
Use Public Transportation or Bikes: Most of these destinations have inexpensive public transportation options, and some European and Asian cities are ideal for cycling.
Travel in the off-season: This reduces accommodation and flight costs and allows for a more leisurely experience.
Alternative Accommodations: Hostels, guesthouses, and Airbnb often offer affordable and comfortable options.

Not only are these destinations affordable, but they also offer unforgettable cultural experiences and opportunities to meet locals and travelers from around the world. If you're planning a trip in 2024, any of these countries would be a great option to explore the world without spending a fortune.

Korean Air to stop serving instant noodles This service will be discontinued due to the increase in turbulence on long-haul flights. The South Korean airline Korean Air announced on Thursday that it will stop serving instant noodles in the economy class of its long-haul flights, following the increase in accidents due to burns to passengers caused by a greater number of turbulences.
