Today I bring you what concerns my experience, a trip to the lake region in Asturias (Spain), with my dog Max, a trip that showed me both how wonderful it can be to explore new places with your pet, and how important it is to plan every detail well when traveling with them. Pet-friendly accommodation options can vary greatly depending on the destination. Some cities and countries have a wide variety of options, with boutique hotels that even offer spa services and walkers for your pet. Other destinations are less flexible and you may have to do a little more research or consider alternatives such as Airbnb or vacation rentals.
I remember staying in a cabin in the woods that was not only pet-friendly, but also had hiking trails designed for owners and their pets. It was amazing to see my dog enjoying nature so much and having ample space to run around.
How did we plan the trip?
"Traveling with Max to Asturias was an unforgettable experience and an example of how it is possible to enjoy nature in a conscious and respectful way when we go with our pets. It was a trip that allowed me to disconnect from the world and connect even more with my four-legged companion, and without a doubt, I am ready for many more adventures with him."

How did we plan the trip?
The first thing was to choose a place where Max could enjoy it as much as I did. Asturias is a region known for its spectacular nature, with mountains, lakes, and beaches, so I knew it was the perfect destination. My goal was to find accommodation that not only allowed pets, but also had space and activities where Max could run, sniff, and explore freely. I searched several platforms, from hotels and cabins to Airbnb, and finally found a wonderful option: a cabin in the woods near Cangas de Onís, surrounded by trails and within walking distance of the famous Enol Lake.
The car trip
The adventure began in the car. Max is a good traveler, but I knew it would be a trip of several hours, so I brought his favorite blanket, some toys, and, of course, snacks and water. To make the trip more comfortable for him, I made stops every two hours, where we took advantage of the opportunity to stretch and let him explore the surroundings. Traveling by car with a pet has its challenges, but seeing him enjoy so much during the stops made it all worth it.
Arrival at the pet-friendly cabin
When we arrived at the cabin, I was delighted. It was located in a beech and oak forest, surrounded by trails and small meadows. The owners of the place, knowing that we were coming with Max, welcomed us with a bed and a special water bowl for him, and gave me a map of nearby trails that were ideal for walking with dogs. They even had some welcome treats for Max, which was a detail that I loved.
The cabin itself was perfect: cozy, with a fireplace and a small terrace where Max would lie down to look at the landscape. The best thing was that from the door we could go directly out onto the trails, so every morning we would get up early and go for a walk surrounded by the tranquility of the forest.
Exploring Enol Lake and the forest
One of the days we decided to venture to Enol Lake, in the Picos de Europa National Park, which was about a 20-minute drive from the cabin. This place is perfect for hiking and has routes of different levels, some of which are pet-friendly (on a leash in the protected areas). We arrived early to enjoy the peace of the place, and seeing Max's happy expression when he saw the lake was one of the most beautiful moments of the trip.
We took our time walking around, enjoying the fresh air and the incredible view of the mountains reflected in the lake. Max splashed around a bit on the shore, and I couldn't help but smile at how much he was enjoying himself.
Relaxing at the cabin
In the afternoon, after a day of exploring, we returned to the cabin where Max would lie down to sleep in his bed while I read by the fireplace. It was the perfect balance between adventure and relaxation. By the end of the trip, I was sure he was as happy as I was to have shared this experience.
